Manchester United confirmed today that it secured the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal in soccer. The club signed a four-year deal with American insurance giants Aon that promises to net the club $32.5m per-season. United has been scouring the globe for a new sponsorship deal since its current sponsor, AIG, announced that it wouldn’t renew a contract worth $22.75m-per-year that expires at the end of the 2009-10 season. AIG’s decision followed massive losses during the current economic downturn.

“We look forward to being closely aligned with the world leader in risk management, a firm which shares our values and is an exciting partner for Manchester United,” said United chief executive David Gill.
