The New York Red Bulls defender Alfredo Pacheco, 26, is on national team duty for El Salvador and believes his team can beat Mexico on Saturday even though El Salvador has picked up only two points from its first three games in the final round of World Cup qualifying.
"I'm not satisfied," Pacheco. "We've not played well up to now, but we have the chance to turn it around in our forthcoming games. We face Mexico next, and we know it's a game we can win." Mexico has lost two of its first three games, to the USA and Honduras.
Pacheco joined the Red Bulls after making 217 appearances for his nation's most successful club, CD FAS, winning five league titles. He joined the Red Bulls on loan this season. "My decision was based on a desire to play a different type of soccer," he said. "I wanted to find out what it's like playing abroad, and get to know a new culture. I also wanted to continue growing as a player and an individual. [MLS] is much faster-paced here and I'm impressed by the competition."
