There is “no chance” of Zinedine Zidane joining David Beckham at the Los Angeles Galaxy, Coach Frank Yallop tells Andrea Canales of L.A. Soccer News. The rumors have resurfaced time and again that the former World and European Player of the Year would make his way to Major League Soccer to rejoin his former Real Madrid teammate, David Beckham. The very latest rumors have linked the France legend with the Chicago Fire, but Yallop anyway, says he’s heard nothing about Zidane joining the Galaxy or MLS.
“I read in the paper the same as everyone did,” Yallop said. “But there’s no truth in that.” However, Yallop did say that Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas and AEG CEO Tim Leiweke would be the guys to talk to about that kind of thing. Both Lalas and Leiweke have been quoted in various papers recently saying MLS is trying to sign more big-name players.
Zidane is one of the few players in world sports whose name rivals that of Beckham in terms of recognition. Sadly, a large swath of those people remember him for his head-butt against Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final, but still, most understand that he is one of the game’s great players. Indeed, Beckham is almost equally famous for not being included on the shortlist of the game’s very greatest.
