[AMERICANS ABROAD] Striker Jozy Altidore, who earlier appeared headed to Greece on loan from his Spanish club Villarreal, will spend the next season in England with EPL club Hull. “First match is against Chelsea subject to a work permit *wink* *wink*,” announced the 19-year-old on his Twitter page.
Altidore joined Villarreal last summer from the New York Red Bulls on a $10 million transfer. After he made six appearances and scored once, the first-division club loaned him to Spanish second division leader Xerez, which gave him no playing time.
But Altidore raised his stock when he scored against Spain in the USA’s historic upset at the Confederations Cup earlier this summer.
Hull won promotion to the English Premier League in 2008 and finished its first EPL season (2008-09) in 17th place.
