Attempting to limit distractions during England's hopeful World Cup, England coach Fabio Capello declared that he will allow players' partners to visit the squad for only one day per week, after each game at next year's World Cup. Capello aims to avoid a repeat of the 2006 World Cup, which defender Rio Ferdinand called the 2006 World Cup "a circus" when players' glamorous wives and girlfriends — the so-called WAGS — stayed in the same town as players in Germany.
"I hope we will be there for a very long period but the players will have one day with their family, with the girls and with their friends," Capello said. "It will be one day a week, after each game, and that is enough. That's it. We are there to play soccer, not for a holiday."
