The English FA has charged Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on dual counts of misconduct during Saturday's Premier League game against Arsenal. First, Adebayor's alleged stomp on Robin van Persie left the Arsenal striker with a cut on his face.
"Under the fast-track disciplinary process, Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Robin van Persie, which resulted in the Arsenal player receiving facial injuries," the FA said in a statement. The FA also charged Adebayor for running the length of the field to celebrate his goal against his former club in front of the visiting Arsenal fans, many of whom reacted violently and had to be corralled by police and stewards.
The FA said that the two events warranted separate hearings but didn't say when these would be held. English soccer's governing body also asked the Greater Manchester Police to investigate the behavior of the Arsenal fans, some of whom through objects on the field, to identify individuals responsible for violent behavior. "The FA would like to see anyone found guilty of such behavior face action through the legal system and banning orders from football," an FA statement read.
