Lothar Matthaeus, Germany's most capped player in history, has reportedly signed a one-year deal to coach Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense, last year's Libertadores Cup runner-up.

Matthaeus, who captained Germany to the 1990 World Cup title and played for the MetroStars in 2000 at age 39, has coached Hungary since 2004.

Atletico Paranaense is located in the Curitiba, the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Parana, a large part of whose populace is of German descent.
