The Los Angeles Galaxy and New England Revolution, MLSÆs top two clubs in 2005, were eliminated by Costa Rican teams Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The Galaxy blew a 2-0 lead at Saprissa, going out 3-2 on veteran Reynaldo Parks' header in overtime. The Revs went down, 1-0, to Alajuela on Carlos HernandezÆs free kick in the 90th minute.
The first legs of both series ended in 0-0 ties. The victories kept Costa RicaÆs supremacy over the USA in the CONCACAF Champions Cup intact. Alajuela and Saprissa have won all six series against MLS clubs since the CONCACAF Champions Cup went to a home-and-away knockout series in 2002.
Club America and Toluca of Mexico join Alajuela in the semifinals. Club AmericaÆs 5-2 victory over Caribbean champion Portmore United of Jamaica in Mexico City gave it a 7-3 victory on aggregate.
Toluca beat Olimpia of Honduras, 2-1, at home to win their series, 4-1, on aggregate.
