The tie moved Leeds to within five points of second-place Sheffield United with a game in hand. Reading (with American starters Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey) has a 15-point lead on Sheffield. The top two teams win automatic promotion to the Premier League. The next four teams enter a promotion playoff, from which the winner moves up.
