American Jay DeMerit scored the first goal and was named Man of the Match as Watford beat Leeds, 3-0, to win the promotion playoffs final and move into the English Premier League next season.
''It sounds fantastic,'' DeMerit said of the move up to the EPL. ''We all worked really hard all season.ö
DeMerit put Watford in front midway through the first half when he scored on a header. A ball deflected off LeedsÆ U.S. midfielder Eddie Lewis and went in off diving goalkeeper Neil Sullivan after hitting the post for the second goal.
Darius Henderson scored on a penalty to round out the scoring.
Lewis had a good chance to score for Leeds and saved another Watford goal by knocking away a ball off the line.
