The United States tied Ivory Coast, 1-1, Friday in its final game of group play at the Under-17 World Championship in Peru.
The Americans won Group C with the tie and move into the quarterfinals, where they face Gambia, Brazil or the Netherlands on Monday.
Jeremy Hall scored on a header for the Americans in the fourth minute, and the USA led until late in the game when the Ivorians equalized off a corner kick. The goal came a few minutes after Amaechi Igwe was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the game.
Hall was one of three players making their first starts in the under-17 World Championship for the USA. Dan Kelly and Gabe Farfan also started for the first time in Peru.
The USA had the game under control for most of the first half after HallÆs early goal, but it lost its way in the second half. The Ivorians took command in the second half and could have won but for their horrendous shooting.
