Brazilian club Flamengo is conducting its training sessions more than 70 miles from its Rio de Janeiro grounds to escape its extremely upset fans.
Flamengo lost, 6-1, to Atletico Mineiro on Sunday to drop into the relegation zone. Upon their return to the Rio de Janeiro airport, fans greeted Flamengo's players with insults and jeers, and jostled them. Goalkeeper Julio Cesar was shown on television kicking a fallen fan.
Julio Cesar said he had been shoved in the back and the father of midfielder Zinho had been punched. ''The television pictures showed me lashing out but didn't show what happened earlier,'' he said.
