Only one playoff spot is still up for grabs in MLS.
New England, D.C. United and Chicago have clinched spots in the East. San Jose, Dallas, Los Angeles and Colorado are in from the West.
Kansas City and the MetroStars are vying for the final East spot, and they do not meet in their last two games. Kansas City, with a two point lead, holds its fate in its own hands.
Kansas City, winless in its last six games, hosts New England on Saturday (8 pm ET, DirectKick Package, WB-56 NE). In their previous three meetings, each has notched a win and they tied once. New England will be without leading scorer Taylor Twellman, away on national team duty. Kansas City travels to Dallas for its final game Oct. 15. They tied in their previous meeting.
The MetroStars travel to D.C. United on Saturday (7:30 ET, DirectKick Package, CSN-DC; MSG). D.C. United beat the MetroStars 4-1 last Saturday, 3-0 Aug. 10, and they played to a scoreless tie in June.
On Oct. 16, the MetroStars travel to Chivas USA. That's the league's last place team but has improved recently, winning and tying on the road in its last two outings.
A loss by the MetroStars combined with a Kansas City win this weekend will mean adios for the Metros. Should the Metros win their final two games while Kansas City ties and wins, the teams will be tied on points. They are even in head-to-head, the first tiebreaker, but the Wizards currently have an edge on goal difference (plus 8 vs. plus 1), the second tiebreaker.
