American forward Conor Casey, 21, is leaving Hannover 96 for the amateur team of Borussia Dortmund, which originally brought Casey to Germany.
Dortmund loaned Casey to Hannover midway through the 2001-2002 season. He played 17 games and notched seven goals as Hannover won promotion from the Second Division to the top tier. Dortmund turned down Hannover's offer to buy Casey following the 2001-2002, instead extending the loan period.
Hannover, for which American Steve Cherundolo started at right back, survived the First Division in 2002-03, finishing in 11th place.
In the First Division, Casey saw only 66 minutes of action over four games, but scored in Hannover's last match, a 1-0 win over Armenia Bielefeld that doomed Bielefeld to the Second Division.
Casey is one of 11 players leaving Hannover. German press reports speculate that Dortmund will loan Casey to a Second Division team.
