The exodus of former Juventus stars to clubs across Europe continues. Italy’s World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro is the first to go, having reportedly signed with Real Madrid, according to the Guardian. Gianluigi Buffon looks set to be next; the 28-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with Arsenal, but his agent said he would prefer to stay in Italy, possibly with AC Milan, the only one of the four indicted Serie A clubs not to be relegated following last week’s sentencing. In addition to Cannavaro, Spanish club Real Madrid is said to be interested in Gianluca Zambrotta and Brazilian midfield general Emerson, both Juventus players. Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been linked with Inter Milan, and Pavel Nedved with English club Tottenham. Alessandro Del Piero is the only one widely expected to pledge his future to the Turin club. Still, nothing is certain yet. “We are not a supermarket,” exclaimed Juve’s new president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli. “The clubs that are interested in our players will have to pay in full.” New coach Didier Deschamps has already started making phone calls to players asking them to stay on until an appeal is heard. He understands it will be “impossible” to keep players if the club is relegated to Serie B and given a 30-point deduction next season.
