Now that central midfielder Michael Ballack and strikers Andriy Schevchenko and Salomon Kalou are headed to Stamford Bridge, it would appear that Chelsea has a glut of midfieldersespecially wingers. There certainly won’t be room for Joe Cole, Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and Shawn Wright-Phillips next season, as Chelsea’s starting lineup will likely be further squeezed by the addition of another striker up top. As a result, Real Madrid may get Arjen Robben after all, but Damien Duff looks certain to trade Stamford Bridge for White Hart Lane. Martin Jol is prepared to pay 10 million pounds to bring Duff to Tottenham, a move that could see the fiery Irishman lineup on the opposite side of Aaron Lennon, who was arguably England’s most explosive player at this summer’s World Cup. Other speculation points to the possible arrival of Czech star Pavel Nedved from Juventus. Meanwhile, Jermain Defoe and Michael Carrick both look set to leave Spurs, the latter possibly for Manchester United.
