Danielle Fotopoulos, snubbed for next week's WUSA All-Star Game, answered with a goal and an assist to lead the Carolina Courage to a 3-0 triumph Wednesday night over visiting Washington, the defending champions' second victory this season over the Freedom.

The veteran striker, the league's all-time scoring leader with 76 points, moved atop this season's scoring list with a goal in the fourth minute and an assist on the first of two second-half Birgit Prinz goals. She has seven goals and six assists for 20 points and is tied for the top spot with Boston's Maren Meinert.

Fotopoulos has scored three goals with five assists in three games this season against Washington, whose coach, Jim Gabarra, left Fotopoulos off his American Stars roster for the June 19 All-Star Game in the Courage's stadium.

New York and Philadelphia played to this season's first scoreless tie before the second-smallest crowd in WUSA history in Wednesday's other match.

Wednesday's highlights:

Carolina 3 Washington 0: The Courage won its season series with Washington, notching its first home victory before 6,124 at SAS Stadium.

Fotopoulos gave Carolina (3-5-1, 10 points) an early advantage with a first-time shot from 15 yards off a nice feed from Venus James.

Carolina scored in the first six minutes in all three games against the Freedom this year.

Prinz netted her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the second half, scoring from a Fotopoulos assist in the 67th minute and from Staci Burt's second assist of the match in the 75th.

Washington (5-3-1, 16 points), which missed a chance to overtake Boston for the No. 1 spot in the standings, was without forward Abby Wambach and defender Skylar Little, both red-carded in the Freedom's 3-1 defeat Sunday to the Breaklers.

New York 0 Philadelphia 0: Saskia Webber notched her second shutout in as many appearances this season for the host Power (4-5-1, 13 points) before 2,369 at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Webber made five saves, including a diving save on a Marinette Pichon scissors kick in the 36th minute, and raced off her line to beat Melanie Hoffmann to a through ball and stop another Charge chance six minutes later. Last-place Philadelphia is 2-5-2, with eight points.

Webber shut out San Jose in her first start on Sunday.

New York managed only five shots — just two of them on frame. The teams combined for 17 corner kicks.

The attendance was only the second sub-3,000 figure in the league's history, just 21 better than the all-time low, 2,348, which witnessed a New York-Philadelphia game at Mitchel in 2001.

New York has drawn only 9,041 fans for its three home games this season, an average of 3,014. Each attendance figure has been worse than the previous match's.

Eleven of 30 sub-5,000 crowds in WUSA history have been at Mitchel.

Susan Marenoff was dismissed as Power general manager earlier this season because of the team's poor attendance.
