The Quakes get back on track with a victory in Dallas; D.C. United wins its second straight and so does the Galaxy; the Rapids pour four goals past the Revs; and the Fire wins in New Jersey.
BEST GOALS: Several of the 19 goals scored in six games (including a 0-0 tie Wednesday) were memorable.
Arturo Alvarez, 17, scored his first MLS goal with a strong header in the 87th minute to give San Jose a 2-1 win over the Burn.
Chris Carrieri's goal in their 4-1 rout of the Revs came with the game already decided but wasn't strictly of statistical interest. Carrieri met a long, dropping cross from Zach Kingsley with a powerful volley into the roof of the net.
BEST ASSISTS: Brian Mullan, who earlier scored the first San Jose goal, bent an incredible ball from near the touchline for Alvarez to score his winner.
Fire midfielder Andy Williams, stationed on the touchline near the center line, floated a diagonal ball into space for Damani Ralph to collect and score the second Chicago goal in its 3-2 defeat of the Metros.
BEST SAVE: Galaxy keeper Kevin Hartman pulled off one of the most dramatic saves in league history by turning away a penalty kick from Preki in stoppage time to give Los Angeles a 2-1 win over Kansas City.
HEROES: Hartman certainly deserves mention in this category, as does No. 1 draft pick Alecko Eskandarian, who scored his first two MLS goals in D.C.'s 3-0 defeat of Columbus, and Williams, who assisted on all three Fire goals in its 3-2 win.
CONTROVERSY! Both penalties in the Galaxy-Wizards game raised questions, although Alexi Lalas certainly impeded Eric Quill and Francisco Gomez may have clipped Cobi Jones' heel(s).
Carey Talley came away from a collision with Carlos Ruiz suffering from a fractured eye socket and had to be substituted.
Igor Simutenkov set up Josh Wolff for Kansas City's first goal by poking the ball to Wolff as he rolled over after being knocked down by Hong Myung Bo. The Galaxy players, perhaps expecting a whistle, relaxed and Hartman was way off his line when Wolff chipped him.
STREAKS AND STATS: After going unbeaten in seven games, the Metros have lost two in a row. … San Jose ended a two-game losing streak with its win in Dallas. … The Revs lost their first road game of the season after posting two wins and two ties in their first four away games. … The Rapids had scored only one goal in their last six games prior to a four-goal outburst. … The Galaxy have not lost in their last 16 home games.
