Siri Mullinix stopped a penalty kick and benefited from her woodwork on Saturday as the Washington Freedom held off an inspired Atlanta Beat for a 1-1 draw in the battle of the WUSA unbeatens at RFK Stadium.

Atlanta's Maribel Dominguez and Washington's Kelly Golebiowski scored goals 43 seconds apart as the host Freedom (3-0-1, 10 points) held onto the top spot standings.

Atlanta (2-0-1, 7 points) dropped to third behind Boston (3-1-0, 9 points), which dominated its home opener, beating Philadelphia, 3-1, as Maren Meinert tallied twice.

Defending champion Carolina fell to 0-3 — all at home — with a 3-1 defeat to New York. Power coach Tom Sermanni earned his first WUSA victory as Tiffeny Milbrett scored a pair of goals.

A rundown of Saturday's action:

Washington 1 Atlanta 1: The Beat dictated huge swaths of action but settled for a draw before 6,222 in Washington. The Freedom got a superb performance from Mullinix, who made four saves, including a 15th-minute stop of Nikki Serlenga's penalty kick.

Atlanta's Homare Sawa hit the crossbar in with a header in the 59th minute, and Abby Crumpton struck the left post in the 65th.

Mia Hamm, who played 62 minutes in the U.S. women's national team's 6-1 victory over Canada in the first game of the RFK doubleheader, entered in the 63rd minute and gave Washington an immediate boost.

Dominguez fired the Beat ahead in the 67th minute, scoring from a tight angle with a shot that glanced off the bottom of the crossbar en route to the net. Crumpton set up the goal with a serpentine pass through traffic. Dominguez leads the WUSA with five goals.

Right off the kickoff, the Freedom got the ball to the right wing, and Hamm's cross went off a defender to Golebiowski, whose shot beat Breanna Scurry to the right post. The Washington goal also was scored in the 67th minute.

Scurry played 180 minutes, full 90s with the U.S. women and the Beat.

Boston 3 Philadelphia 1: Maren Meinert scored her third and fourth goals of the season and the Breakers extended their home unbeaten streak to 12 games on a cold, rainy day at Nickerson Field.

Dagny Mellgren added a pair of assists and Devvyn Hawkins scored her first WUSA goal in front of 3,823 fans. The game was the first regular-season meeting between Philadelphia coach Mark Krikorian and Boston's Pia Sundhage, who was a Charge assistant the first two seasons.

Meinert first-timed a Stephanie Mugneret-Beghe feed for a third-minute lead and dribbled past Charge goalkeeper Melissa Moore in the 73rd to make it 3-0.

Philadelphia (0-2-0, 0 points) got its first goal of the season on Melanie Hoffmann's penalty kick in stoppage time.

New York 3 Carolina 1: Tiffeny Milbrett netted her first two goals of the season and Christie Welsh scored her first WUSA goal as the Power (1-3-0, 3 points) added to Carolina's woes before 5,614 at SAS Stadium in Cary, N.C.

The Courage (0-3-0, 0 points) struggled to create without Norwegian playmaker Hege Riise, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee last weekend and will miss the remainder of the season.

Welsh, the No. 2 selection in February's WUSA draft, gave the Power a 10th-minute advantage, and Milbrett doubled it just before halftime. Milbrett added another goal in the 73rd minute, reestablishing a two-goal cushion after Danielle Fotopoulos' penalty kick put Carolina on the board.

The result left Carolina's Jay Entlich the lone rookie head coach without a victory.
