Another weekend packed with non-conference clashes proved to shake up the Top 25 for the second straight week.

No. 2 Maryland squeaked past No. 1 UCLA, 1-0, on a 57th-minute penalty kick by Abe Thompson, helping the Terrapins — playing in front of a record home crowd of 6,143 — ease the sting of their semifinal loss to the Bruins last year.

Meanwhile, Big East powers St. John's and UConn asserted themselves after early season losses as the Red Storm blanked Notre Dame, 3-0 and the Huskies scored victories over Boston University (1-0) and Indiana (2-1).

The most surprising team of the week was Old Dominion, which logged a pair of 1-0 victories over California and Stanford in Berkeley.

Santa Clara also looks to move up the ladder after it tied Creighton and defeated SMU, 3-1.
