Former WUSA goalkeeper Maite Zabala, still seeking her first Spanish League appearance since signing in late March with Athletic Bilbao, may get the opportunity in Sunday's showdown with Sabadell.
Zabala, a former University of California standout who played with Atlanta, Philadelphia and Carolina in the WUSA, couldn't make her debut in a bigger match. The Superliga title could be on the line, as both clubs are 17-3-3, with 54 points. Sabadell is atop the standings with a superior goal-differential, plus-63 to Athletic's plus-50.
Athletic and Sabadell have two games remaining after Sunday's game, and Levante (15-4-4) remains within striking distance and could benefit from a draw in Bilbao.
FFC Turbine Potsdam, with former Atlanta Beat defenders Julie and Nancy Augustyniak, takes on FSV Frankfurt on Sunday as it battles UEFA Women's Cup finalist FFC Frankfurt for the German Frauen-Bundesliga title.
FFC Frankfurt (14-0-1), which holds a one-point advantage on Turbine (14-1-0) with seven matches to play, travels Sunday to FC Saarbruecken, which has lost all 15 of its German League matches this season. Turbine and Frankfurt meet on the final day of the season, June 13, in Frankfurt.
Jenny Benson, with FC Energy Voronezh, is preparing for the May 1 start to the Russian League season. She played 90 minutes in midfield in preseason losses Monday and Wednesday at Ukrainian power FC Metallist Kharkov.
