Second-degree murder charges were filed Tuesday in the shooting death Sunday of University of Nebraska soccer star Jenna Cooper.

Lucky Iromuanya, 22, of Lincoln, Neb., faces a 20 years-to-life sentence if convicted in the killing of Cooper, who was shot early Sunday morning during a party outside the U.S. under-21 women's pool player's home. Cooper, 21, died from her wounds Sunday evening.

Iromuanya, who told police he meant to fire a ''warning shot'' after an argument broke out about missing shot glasses, also was charged with attempted second-degree murder for shooting Nolan Jenkins and two counts of using a weapon to commit a felony. Each of the additional charges could add 50 years to a prision sentence.

The bullet went through Jenkins and hit Cooper, a Cornhuskers captain from Louisville, Ky., in the throat.

Iromuanya's bail was set at $1 million, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 13. Public defender Webb Bancroft, assigned to represent Iromuanya, said he was considering making a request to reduce the bail amount, according to a report in the Omaha World-Herald.

Lancaster County Attorney Gary Lacey told the Lincoln Journal Star that he didn't ''think we could establish sufficient premeditation'' to charge Iromuanya with first-degree murder.

A memorial service Tuesday drew 1,000 to Memorial Stadium on the University of Nebraska campus.

The Journal Star reported that Cooper's brain functions ceased on Sunday but that she was kept on life support until Monday so her organs could be harvested.

Jenkins, 22, a Nebraska student, is in fair condition at BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.
