Long Beach City College's women's soccer team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, routed previously undefeated Lassen, 4-0, Sunday in the California state championship at Oliveira Fields in Lemoore.

The Vikings (22-0-0) scored four goals in the span of 22 minutes to claim its fourth successive COA championship as Southern California swept the state's junior college titles.

Irvine Valley College (15-6-3) won the men's championship, outshooting Cosumnes River, 4-2, on penalty kicks following a 0-0 tie.

Tournament MVP Joy Grey scored one goal and assisted another for Long Beach City, which broke a scoreless tie on Grey's 45-yard blast in the 44th minute, then added three more goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Kristin Bilby added two assists for the Vikings, who also got goals from Cammie Peronto in the 50th minute, Vanessa Baydar in the 62nd and Kristin Childers — her 38th of the year — in the 65th.

Lassen, from Susanville, finished the season with a 23-1-0 record.

Irvine Valley, led by tournament MVP Ryan Reott, was the more dangerous team in the men's final, outshooting Cosumnes River, 20-8.

All four Lasers — Reott, Chris Gould, Bobby Gallagher and Nick Martinez — converted their spot kicks; Gustavo Pulido, who hit the crossbar, and Edric Soltero, whose shot was saved by IVC goalkeeper Joe Ascona, missed for the Hawks (19-1-4).

The victory was Irvine Valley's second in the state playoffs over the nation's No. 1 team. Cosumnes River grabbed the top spot after the Lasers beat top-ranked Mount San Antonio in the second round of the Southern California regionals.
