Maryland and St. John's both came from two goals behind to win, and Indiana and Santa Clara both won without a pair of stars at the World Youth Championship to reach the semifinals of the Men's College Cup next weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

Maryland was down to Saint Louis, 2-0, after 11 minutes, but rallied for four goals in a little more than 11 minutes on either side of halftime to beat the Billikens. Maryland dominated the game, outshooting SLU, 26-9.

The Terrapins meet St. John's, a 3-2 winner over Creighton. The Redmen fell behind, 2-0, in the 60th minute but had the added handicap of playing with 10 men for the last 79 minutes after the dismissal of Chris Leidner. St. John's rallied to tie the score six minutes later with two goals in 56 seconds, the second a penalty kick by U.S. U-23 Chris Wingert. Italian Simone Salinno scored the winning goal in the 79th minute.

The St. John's-Creighton game was played at Maryland's Ludwig Field because snow in the New York area made playing conditions impossible at St. John's. The Ludwig doubleheader was played in freezing temperatures with driving winds up to 30 miles per hour.

The big upset was in Los Angeles, where Indiana beat top seed UCLA, 2-1. Pat Yates' goal in the 78th minute broke a 1-1 tie and sent Indiana to the final four the 16th and final time in the career of retiring Hoosier coach Jerry Yeagley. The win was Yeagley's 542nd of his career, the most in NCAA Division I men's history. Indiana would have had to win the national title (with a semifinal victory in regular or overtime) for Yeagley to tie San Francisco's Steve Negoesco's record of 544 wins, but the NCAA recently took away four wins from Negoesco's ledger — four wins in the 1978 NCAA tournament championship that were deleted because of the Dons' use of an ineligible player.

Kelechi Igwe, whose father Tony, a former Nigerian international, starred on that 1978 USF team, scored twice to lead Santa Clara past Michigan, 3-1, in the rain at Buck Shaw Stadium. Jason Cunliffe's penalty kick in the 43rd minute broke a 1-1 tie.

Both Indiana (Ned Grabavoy and Drew Moor) and Santa Clara (Steve Cronin and Ryan Cochrane) were without stars playing with the U.S. under-20 national team at the World Youth Championship. Their availability for the final four will depend on the result of Monday's round-of-16 match against Ivory Coast.

The Maryland-St. John's game is scheduled to kick off at Columbus Crew Stadium at 5 pm ET (TV: ESPN2, live, 5 pm ET). The Indiana-Santa Clara game follows at 7:30 pm ET (TV: ESPN2, delay, Saturday, Dec. 13, 4:30 pm ET).

The final will be played Sunday, Dec. 14 (TV: ESPN2, live, 2 pm ET).
