The United States was eliminated from the Confederations Cup Saturday when it fell to Brazil, 1-0, in Lyons.

The only goal came in the 22nd minute after central defender Gregg Berhalter coughed up the ball outside the U.S. penalty area. Adriano picked up the ball, broke in on goal and scored on his own rebound after goalie Tim Howard parried the Brazilian striker's first shot.

The U.S. played with more composure than it had two days earlier against Turkey but rarely troubled Brazil. The Americans' only clear chance came in the 60th minute when Dida stopped Landon Donovan's low shot from a sharp angle.

Brazil could have won by a larger margin but for the spectacular work of Howard in goal.

The U.S. closes out play in Group B Monday when it plays Cameroon in Lyons.

The Lions advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0 win over Turkey in St. Denis on Geremi's penalty kick in the 89th minute.

Brazil must beat Turkey Monday to advance to the semifinals. The Turks go through with a win or tie.
