New England knocks Los Angeles off the unbeaten pedestal, 10-man Kansas City beats Colorado by two goals, the Crew gets its first point, Chicago swats the Metros, and D.C. leaves San Jose with a tie.

BEST GOAL: When Joey Franchino goes for goal, usually it's with a free kick, but against his former team he tucked away a sublime shot as the Revs beat L.A., 2-1.

Franchino's side-footed finish followed a buildup started by rookie sensation Clint Dempsey. Taylor Twellman dribbled to the right side of the box and back-heeled a ball Pat Noonan redirected to a wide-open Franchino.

BEST ASSISTS: Diego Gutierrez burst through three opponents to float a diagonal ball that Josh Wolff put away for the clinching goal in Kansas City's 2-0 defeat of Colorado.

Chris Armas set up Dipsy Selolwane for Chicago's first goal in its 3-0 thumping of the Metros by using the outside of his right foot to flick a ball from Andy Williams to Selolwane, who outran Eddie Pope to shoot past Jonny Walker.

Bobby Convey floated a ball to the far post that Dema Kovalenko crashed into the net for D.C. United's goal in a 1-1 tie with the Quakes.

BEST SAVES: Nick Rimando helped D.C. United garner a point in San Jose by tipping a Brian Ching shot onto the crossbar with an acrobatic save and went low to save a Richard Mulrooney drive that would have won the match in the final minutes.

Crew keeper Jon Busch turned away a sharp header from Eddie Johnson and pushed a Steve Jolley header onto the post in a 0-0 tie that gave Columbus its first point and maintained the Burn's unbeaten (2-0-2) start to the season.

Adin Brown stoned Carlos Ruiz with a face save on a breakaway as an opponent blanked Ruiz for the first time this season.

Ruiz has scored five of the Galaxy's eight goals. He nearly scored against New England with a shot that squeezed through Brown's grasp but Alejandro Moreno actually touched it over the goal line in the 2-1 loss to the Revs.

BEST DEFENDER SAVE: The Crewfs Kyle Martino, standing on the goal line, deflected an Eddie Johnson header with his shoulder and when the rebound came straight down off the underside of the crossbar, he inadvertently — or so it seemed — settled it with his arm.

SHORT COMEBACK: Kansas City lost Jose Burciaga to a red card in the 45th minute yet got goals by Chris Klein and Wolff in the second half. Burciaga was making only his second league appearance in nearly a year, having missed most of the 2003 season with an ACL tear.

SITTERS. The Fire's only loss in the last 12 meetings with the MetroStars came on June 22, 2002. + D.C. stopped a two-game losing streak with the tie in San Jose. + Freddy Adu played 78 minutes in his first MLS start. + The Crew hasn't scored in 330 minutes of play.
