Lee Edgerton scored goals in his first two appearances with the U.S. futsal team, leading it to a 7-1 aggregate victory over Honduras in qualifiers for this summerÆs eight-nation CONCACAF tournament in Costa Rica.

Edgerton was among five U.S. goalscorers in a 5-1 victory Tuesday night and scored the first in a 2-0 triumph Thursday night, both played at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. TuesdayÆs attendance was 217; on Thursday it was 203.

Danny Kelly also tallied in his first cap Tuesday, and Johnny Torres, Greg Howes and Joel Shanker also scored for the Americans. ThursdayÆs second goal was an own goal.

The U.S. team joins Costa Rica, Cuba, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago and the winners of two playoff series — Mexico vs. El Salvador, Canada vs. Panama, both concluding Saturday — at the July 23-31 CONCACAF tournament. The finalists advance to the FIFA Futsal World Championship Nov. 21-Dec. 5 in Chinese Taipei.

The United States won the 1996 CONCACAF Futsal tournament and finished third in 2000, when Costa Rica won.

Futsal is an indoor-soccer game quite different from American indoor soccer, as played in the Major Indoor Soccer League. The U.S. coach, Keith Tozer, and majority of its players compete in the MISL.
