Rookie Christine Latham scored a pair of goals, the second in the 90th minute, as visiting San Diego rallied to tie San Jose, 2-2, in a WUSA clash before 5,547 at Spartan Stadium.

Latham first-timed a cross from Allie Sullivan to pull the Spirit (5-3-5, 20 points) within two points of first-place Atlanta and within one of second-place Boston.

San Jose (5-7-2, 17 points) are even with Washington and New York in fourth place. Washington has three games in hand over the CyberRays and Power.

San Jose had more of the match despite losing Brandi Chastain to a minor hip injury in the 20th minute.

Latham gave San Diego a lead just before halftime, heading home a Julie Fleeting cross, but Katia pulled the CyberRays even four minutes into the second half and Sissi gave them an advantage with a spectacular, 40-yard shot in the 78th minute.

The Spirit was missing Joy Fawcett and San Jose was without Pretinha, who were suspended after picking up red cards in Sunday's meeting in San Diego. No cards, yellow or red, were issued Wednesday.
