FFC Turbine Potsdam moved closer to the German League championship on Thursday, routing host FSV Frankfurt, 6-0, to pull within two points of Frauen-Bundesliga leader FFC Frankfurt.
Turbine, with former Atlanta Beat defender Nancy Augustyniak playing the full game on the back line, got goals from Petra Wimbersky, Conny Pohlers and Jennifer Zietz in a 10-minute span of the second half to pull away. Pohlers, AugustyniakÆs former Beat teammate, scored twice, giving her 14 goals this season.
Turbine (18-1-1) can overtake FFC Frankfurt (18-0-3) for first place with a victory Sunday at home against FCR 2001 Duisburg. Turbine then would need only a tie in the June 13 season finale at FFC Frankfurt to add the Frauen-Bundesliga title to its German Cup crown.
