Hope Solo notched her fourth shutout in five matches, and Venus James scored in her first game overseas in Swedish League action on Saturday.

Solo led surprising Kopparergs/Goteborg to a 2-0 victory at Stattena IF to keep pace with Damallsvenskan leaders Djurgarden/Alvsjo, which pulled away from Mallbackens IF, 2-0, on JamesÆ late strike.

Solo, who played with the WUSAÆs Philadelphia Charge, has been critical as K/Goteborg has started the season 4-1-0 — the loss a 5-0 setback at European champion Umea IK — for third place, trailing Djurgarden Alvsjo (5-0-0) by three points. Umea (4-0-0) plays its fifth-round game Tuesday against Malmo FF.

Anna Ahlstrand and Camilla Schellin scored second-half goals for K/Goteborg.

James, who won WUSA championships in San Jose and Carolina, teamed with Victoria Svensson and Sara Johansson up front for the final 26 minutes, earning raves in the Swedish press for her speed, guile and goal from a Svensson long ball. JohannsonÆs league-leading sixth goal of the season provided the reigning Swedish champions a 50th-minute lead.

Darci Borski started but could not score as Asker (3-1-1) dropped five points behind Toppserien leader Trondheims-Orn (5-0-0) with a 2-0 loss to Kolbotn (4-0-1). Kristine Lindblom and Tonje Hansen scored in the final 11 minutes.

Julie Augustyniak was a late sub in FFC Turbine PotsdamÆs 3-0 win at fourth-place Hamburger SV in the German Frauen-Bundesliga; sister Nancy was absent — sheÆs been in Southern California all week with the U.S. womenÆs national team. Turbine remains six points behind FFC Frankfurt — 4-1 winners at Bad Neuenahr — with a game in hand, a goal-differential advantage, and a season-ending showdown awaiting.

Tracey Winzen (VfL Wolfsburg) played into the second half of a 2-0 German League loss to Bayern Munich, but Maite Zabala saw no action as Spanish League champions Athletic BilbaoÆs season concluded with a 2-0 loss to Torrejon — the basque clubÆs only home loss of the campaign.
