A UEFA panel ratified the decision made by the Italian Football Federation to reinstate disgraced club AC Milan to Champions League qualifying. The club was initially banned from the competition and then reinstated on appeal. An emergency panel was called by European soccer’s governing party to determine whether the club, which had been found guilty in the probe into match-fixing, had the right to enter the competition next season. The UEFA panel said it “had no choice but to admit” Milan, after the club threatened to sue the governing body. Milan said the Swiss-based panel had no legal grounds to refuse its admission. The emergency panel said it was “deeply concerned” that Milanese management created the appearance of interfering in the outcome of matches, adding that any inkling of its trying to do so next season would cause UEFA to “intervene severely.”
