Italy and Fiorentina striker Luca Toni, hungry for more success after hoisting the World Cup in July, wants to leave the Florence club for Inter Milan, ANSA reports. However, Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle isn’t inclined to honor the striker’s request, after Toni bagged 31 goals to lead Italy’s Serie A in scoring last year. It would seem that the striker feels he has no choice but to take the matter public: “I’ve heard Diego Della Valle does not want to sell me, but I have to explain to him the needs of a 30-year-old player, who has a great season under his belt and wants to win something important,” Toni said Thursday. After being found guilty for its role in the match-fixing scandal, the Florence club has been banned from the Champions League and docked 19 points to start next season, which means the club is unlikely to qualify for the European competition for the next two seasons, after which time Toni will be 32. The striker’s impressive haul last season made him the first Serie A player to score more than 30 goals in a season for over 40 years. Toni is contracted to Fiorentina through 2009.
