The United States learned Thursday that Italy will be one of its first-round opponents at the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship this fall.

The Americans will find out its final group foe on Sunday when Germany takes on Spain in the UEFA U-19 Women's Championship final in Finland.

Italy, which finished third in the UEFA championship, fell, 1-0, to Spain in Thursday's semifinals. The European titlist will join the Americans, Italians and South Korea in Group C at the Nov. 10-27 World Championship in Thailand.

The runner-up will play in Group A with Thailand, Canada and Australia.

Russia, which lost, 8-0, to Germany in the UEFA event, will play in Group B with China, Brazil and the African champion. Nigeria beat South Africa, 1-0, last weekend in the first leg of the African championship and will be home for the second leg in mid-September.

Italy went 1-2-1 in the UEFA tournament, winning its group on goal-differential after all four teams finished with four points. Serna Coppolino scored three of Italy's eight goals, and Penelope Riboldi and Agnese Ricco added two apiece.

Germany is an overwhelming favorite in Sunday's UEFA final after outscoring its four opponents, 23-0. The Germans battered Spain, 7-0, in the Group A finale after routing Finland and Switzerland by 4-0 scorelines.

Five of the top six goalscorers in the tournament are German, with Anja Mittag closing in on the Golden Boot with six goals. Simone Laudehr has netted four, and Lena Goessling, Katharina Griessemer and Annike Krahn have scored three apiece.

Germany has scored 18 of its goals in the second half. It led Russia, 1-0, at halftime on Thursday before erupting for seven in the second half.
