Christine Sinclair and Lindsay Tarpley, Soccer America's choices as the College Women's Player of the Year the past two seasons, head the 25-player preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the NSCAA has announced.

Sinclair, a Canadian national team star who plays at Portland, was the top college player in 2002 when she led the Pilots to the NCAA Division I championship. She redshirted last year to play for Canada at the Women's World Cup.

Tarpley, like Sinclair a junior, was the best player last fall while leading North Carolina to the national championship. Tarpley is in Greece to play in the Olympics with the U.S. women's national team.

Sinclair is one of two Portland players on the list, joined by midfielder Lindsey Huie, and Tarpley's UNC (and U.S. national team) teammates Lori Chalupny and Heather O'Reilly also are listed. O'Reilly also is on the U.S. Olympic team.

Notre Dame (Canadian national-team defenders Candace Chapman and Melissa Tancredi) and Virginia (midfielder Kelly Hammond and defender Becky Sauerbrunn) have two players on the list.

Sauerbrunn will not be competing this fall. She's the defensive anchor of the U.S. U-19 women's national team and will redshirt this season to prepare for the U-19 World Championship in November.

The most prominent names missing from the list are Villanova defender Michelle Biehl, Stanford defender Jenny Farenbaugh, Virginia midfielder Sarah Huffman, Arizona State midfielder Manya Makoski, Penn State goalkeeper Erin McLeod, UCLA defender Jill Oakes, DePaul midfielder Julianne Sitch, Stanford forward Marcie Ward, North Carolina midfielder Kacey White and Nebraska midfielder Brittany Timko.

North Carolina defender Catherine Reddick, another Olympian, won the honor last year. The winner will be announced in St. Louis in January.
