Defending Libertadores Cup champ Sao Paulo of Brazil beat Chivas Guadalajara, 3-0, to advance (4-0 on aggregate) to the final, where it will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Paraguay’s Libertad and Brazil’s Internacional (live on Fox Sports en Espanol, 8:30 pm ET).
Guadalajara, falling in the semis for the second straight year, had a chance to take the lead on a Ramon Morales penalty kick. But Sao Paulo keeper Rogero Ceni, who scored the first leg’s only goal from the spot at the other end, saved. Leandro scored once and Ricardo Oliveira struck twice for Sao Paulo in front of 70,000 fans.
Sao Paulo won Libertadores Cup titles in 1992, 1993 and 2005.
“Yes, we’re hurting now, but I think Mexican soccer is on the rise and we just need to take that final step,” said Chivas goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez.
