After the third-round of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open play, only MLS and A-League remain in the last 16. Four Premier Development League, three of which went to overtime against A-League foes, and two Pro Soccer League teams fell in third-round play June 30.
Two MLS teams, Columbus and Dallas, entered Open Cup play at the third round stage and beat A-League squads Syracuse and Virginia Beach, respectively. The remaining eight MLS clubs, last year's MLS playoff qualifiers, enter the competition in the fourth-round, whose games take place July 20-21 (except for the July 14 San Jose-Portland Timbers match).
