Rachel Kruze on Monday watched her first Icelandic league game — but did not play — as IBV fell, 3-1, to first-place Valur, and Danica Carey is heading home following a short stint with Russia's FC Energy Voronezh.

Kruze, a former West Virginia University star who played last year with the WUSA's Philadelphia Charge, arrived last weekend in Iceland but was not on IBV's squad list for the Landsbankadeild Kvenna showdown with Valur.

Former Charge defender Mary McVeigh played 90 minutes for IBV (4-1-2), which fell to third place, seven points behind Valur (7-0-0) and two behind KR (5-1-1), which routed Thor/KA/KS, 9-0, on Monday.

Nina Osk Kristinsdottir scored twice as Valur built a 3-0 lead by the 55th minute. Margret Lara Vidarsdottir netted IBV's goal, her 11th of the season, in the 76th.

Kruze hopes to make her IBV debut Friday against Throttur in an Icelandic Cup quarterfinal. IBV's next league match is July 18 at FH.

Stjarnan (0-3-3), with former University of South Carolina defender Alison Jarrow and current Gamecock Sarah Lentz, is home Tuesday in an Icelandic league match against Breidablik (3-3-0).

Carey, who joined Energy Voronezh in early June, was released for ''sport reasons,'' according to a news item (in Russian, translated by World Lingo) placed Monday on the club's Web site.

Carey, who started the season with San Diego WFC of the Women's Premier Soccer league, played in two matches for Energy. She played the first half of a 2-0 victory June 9 over Chertanovo and 90 minutes in a 4-0 win June 23 at Nika.

Former Charge defender Jenny Benson, Carey's former University of Nebraska teammate, is the starting left back for the Russian Supreme League leaders.
