American DaMarcus Beasley scored the winning goal for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven Tuesday in a 1-0 Champions League victory over Norway's Rosenborg, for which American Robbie Russell started in defense.

In the 10th minute, Philip Cocu launched a pass from the PSV half that Beasley ran on to at the edge of the penalty area. Beasley settled the ball perfectly with his left foot while pushing it forward to his right foot, with which he stroked it past oncoming goalkeeper Espen Johnsen before shooting into an open net.

The win moved Eindhoven into first place of Group E, three points ahead Arsenal, and in good position to advance to the knockout stage. It has failed to advance past the group stage in eight previous attempts.

Beasley, who tormented the Rosenborg defense throughout the game and almost scored again after maneuvering past three defenders, has now scored twice in five Champions League appearances.

The 22-year-old who joined PSV in August has played in eight Dutch league games and scored twice for the league leader.
