Jose Antonio Reyes is desperate to return to Spain with Real Madrid, and the Arsenal winger is having a hard time figuring out what exactly he should say to the press about the matter. The player has given several conflicting accounts about the speculation. Reyes most recently said he wants to sort things out “as soon as possible. The winger received his wish as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided to sit the unsettled player for the whole of his club’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb. Had Reyes played he would have been Cup-tied for the remainder of the Champions League season, which would have effectively killed a possible deal with Madrid, according to his agent. His sitting fueled further speculation that his departure is imminent. However, the ever-coy Wenger insisted he didn’t play Reyes because “he did not have the right concentration to play,” given all the media speculation, and that he was “quite confident” Reyes would continue playing for Arsenal. Although he claims otherwise (and he always does), Wenger is thought to be readying Marseille winger Franck Ribery as replacement for the promising, but inconsistent, homesick Spaniard.
