Speaking of Real Madrid’s surplus of strikers, AC Milan is now reportedly eyeing a bid for Brazilian legend Ronaldo, who has yet to report to new coach Fabio Capello after undergoing surgery after the World Cup. Milan feels they lost out to cross-town rivals Inter for both Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s signatures, and has yet to replace Andriy Shevchenko. The aging Brazilian striker is now thought to be available for around $20 million after packing on a few more pounds and losing a few more steps, but as he showed in the World Cup, he can still be deadly when presented with the chance. Despite his stormy departure from Inter Milan in 2002, Ronaldo’s repeatedly stated his desire to one day make his return to Italy’s second city. At Real Madrid, competition for starting spots will be fierce, with Robinho, Antonio Cassano, Raul, Julio Baptista, and now, Ruud Van Nistelrooy all competing for places. Milan also has its eye on Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres and Juve’s David Trezeguet. But Ronaldo is still a more attractive option than Trezeguet, while Torres’fee is thought to be too expensive, possibly $40 million.
