Peter Cargill became the third Reggae Boy to die in a road accident en route to Montego Bay in less than four years when the minivan he was traveling in skidded off a wet road and struck an embankment Saturday. Cargill, 41, was en route to a Jamaican National Premiere League in Montego Bay, where Waterhouse, the team he coached, was playing when he was thrown from the minivan and died of extensive injuries to the pelvic area and hemorrhaging. Three other people in the minivan were injured.
Cargill played on the 1998 Jamaica World Cup team after returning home following a successful career in Israel. Later he served as an assistant coach of the national team and coached Jamaica's U-23s.
In December 2001, defender Steve ''Shorty'' Malcolm was killed after playing for the Reggae Boyz against Bulgaria. In September 2004, Winston Anglin, a midfielder who played for the team in the 1990s, was one of five people killed in St. Ann when their car swerved off a highway and crashed into a boulder.
Cargill is survived by his wife, Angela, and two children.
