The MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy will participate in the World Peace King Cup July 15-22 in Seoul, South Korea.
The field includes four teams from Europe (Bayer Leverkusen of Germany, Lyon of France, Roma of Italy and PSV of the Netherlands) and one each from Africa (Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa), Asia (Seongnam Ilwha of Korea), South America (Sao Paulo of Brazil) and CONCACAF (Galaxy)
The Galaxy, who will feature Korean star Hong Myung Bo this season, won the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup but was denied an opportunity to play in the 2001 Club World Championship when the FIFA tournament was canceled.
The clubs will be divided into two four-team groups. They will play the other clubs in their group, and the group winners will meet in the final. The club that captures the World Peace King Cup wins a prize of $2 million; the runners-up receive $500,000.
The draw and schedule for group play will be announced in May.
