The Colorado Rapids scored twice in the last 11 minutes to beat the MetroStars, 3-2, at Giants Stadium. The win moved Colorado, which had been in last place, ahead of Dallas and San Jose in the Western Conference standings.
Argentine attacker Sergio Galvan Rey had scored his first for the MetroStars to give them a 2-1 lead – after Eddie Galvan had equalized with a header from a Joselito Vaca cross in the first half – but two Rapids who scored also their first goals led Colorado to victory.
Jordan Cila, making his second MLS start, scored the opening goal – his first pro goal – and hit the gamewinner. Nat Borchers had equalized the game at 2-2 with a drive after an Antonio de la Torre free kick. Cila's winner came after a de la Torre corner kick.
The game was the first part of a doubleheader with an international friendly in which Argentina downed Peru, 2-1, in front of 41,013.
