The Colorado Rapids have signed Littleton native and U.S. U-17 national team defender/midfielder Seth Trembly to a Major League Soccer Project-40 contract. Trembly starred at Arapahoe High School from 1996 to 1998, and is currently in residency with the U.S. U-17s in Florida, foregoing his senior season this fall. Trembly, who trained with the Rapids during a short three-week stint in July, heads back to Bradenton Academy High School at the Bollettieri Academy this week to rejoin the U-17 team as they prepare for the FIFA U-17 World Championships, to be held in New Zealand in November. He will begin with the Rapids full time next season, when the high school senior returns to Arapahoe High School for the spring term, following the end of the U-17 Residency Program. Rapids coach Glenn “Mooch” Myernick said that adding a player of Trembly’s quality who is a Colorado native makes him a great addition to the Rapids. “Seth is a player we have had out eye on for a while, and we are very excited to have him join our squad next season,” said Myernick. “We are always watching the local talent very closely, and Seth is a player who has distinguished himself at the highest level.” Trembly has 29 career international appearances with the U.S. Under-17 team. The Littleton native is the second Project-40 player to be assigned to the Rapids. Midfielder Joey DiGiamarino, among Project-40’s first graduating class following the 1998 MLS season, joined Colorado on April 22, 1997, and is now a regular starter.
