Colorado Rapids midfielder Matt McKeon has been added to the U.S. national team roster for the upcoming Confederations Cup in Mexico. McKeon replaces Chicago Fire midfielder Chris Armas, who was hurt in a U.S. friendly against Egypt on July 20 in Mexico. Armas attempted to get in on a tackle, but his left foot got stuck in the soft turf and he suffered what U.S. Soccer doctors described as a grade 1 sprain of his left medial collateral ligament (MCL). Armas will return home to Chicago and be further evaluated by Chicago Fire doctors. He is expected to be out of action for three weeks. McKeon and the U.S. will open Confederations Cup play on July 24 against New Zealand at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
