Injuries prevented both D.C. United defender Eddie Pope and Hertha Berlin’s Tony Sanneh from joining the U.S. national team’s training camp this week in Denver, and the pair will not be eligible for U.S. duty at the Confederations Cup. Pope, who was expected back after recovering from a fractured foot, sprained the MCL in his left knee during D.C. United’s match versus San Jose on July 4. Sanneh, who is currently rehabilitating in Germany with his Hertha Berlin club, has had lingering problems associated with a hamstring injury suffered earlier this year. The U.S. meets English club Derby County in a friendly in Denver July 13. U.S. coach Bruce Arena will announce his roster for the Confederations Cup on July 15.
