Citing personal reasons, New England defender Richard Goulooze has requested and received his release from MLS and the Revolution. “I have greatly enjoyed my time here in Boston,” Goulooze said. “But my family comes first and we have made a collective decision to return home to Amsterdam.” Goulooze, 31, made nine starts for New England this season. Last year, he started 29 of 32 games for the Revs, scoring one goal and adding two assists. His departure opens an international slot on the New England roster, with Mario Gori, Giovanni Savarese and Walter Zenga filling the other available positions. “We are saddened by Richard’s departure,” said Revolution GM Brian O’Donovan. “He had been a major contributor to our team this season, but we completely understand and respect his decision. In conjunction with MLS, we are immediately beginning to look for a high quality international player now that we have an international slot open and room under the salary cap.”
