Tampa Bay and Colorado worked out a trade on June 15 that sends midfielder Guillermo Jara to the Rapids and defender Steve Trittschuh to the Mutiny. Jara, 25, joined the Mutiny in 1998 after more than two seasons with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He has appeared in ten games this season, recording one assist. A University of San Diego product, Jara can play as a midfielder or as a forward, and has two goals and ten assists over his four seasons in MLS. “Guillermo is a versatile, naturally left-footed player who gives us additional depth in several positions,” said Colorado coach Glenn Myernick. “We can use him as a forward or a left-sided midfielder. He has quick feet, is a good possession player and a good striker of the ball.” Trittschuh, 34, closes out a solid Rapids career, having anchored the defense that won the 1997 MLS Western Conference title, and scoring eleven goals in 91 regular-season games for Colorado. A former U.S. national team defender who appeared in the 1990 World Cup in Italy, Trittschuh had yet to appear in a game for the Rapids in 1999 after Marcelo Balboa was moved back to the sweeper position. “Even going back to last year’s draft, I have been looking for an additional defender,” said Mutiny coach Tim Hankinson. “With the illness to central defenders Chris Houser [colitis] who is still a few weeks away from match-readiness, and the season-ending loss of Jan Eriksson [knee surgery], the opportunity to add a central defender of Steve’s national team and MLS experience was the right move at this time for the Mutiny.” The trade leaves Marcelo Balboa as the lone player from the original Colorado Rapids team of 1996. Both Jara and Trittschuh are expected to be with their new clubs for matches this weekend. Three games moved Three games have been rescheduled due to teams’ involvement in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Oct. 1 match between Kansas City and Chicago at Soldier Field has been moved to Aug. 25, with kickoff still set for 7:30 p.m. (CT). The Sept. 30 match between Tampa Bay and D.C. at RFK Stadium has been moved to Oct. 6, with the kickoff remaining at 7:30 p.m. (ET). D.C. was originally scheduled to play the MetroStars on Oct. 6 at Giants Stadium, but that match has been moved to Wednesday, Aug. 11 (kickoff 7:00 p.m. ET). The rescheduling means the Metros will play only one home game (9/22 vs. San Jose), in addition to any MLS playoff games, on Astroturf at Giants Stadium.
