The Miami Fusion has traded midfielder Carlos Parra to the New England Revolution for forward Tony Kuhn and a second round draft pick in the 2000 MLS College Draft “Kuhn is big, strong and athletic, with the potential to dominate in the air,” said Miami Managing Director Doug Hamilton. “We found ourselves with an abundance of midfielders, and this move allows us to add depth to our attack. We are grateful for Carlo Parra’s effort towards the development of our team.” Kuhn, 23, is a second-year player out of Vanderbilt University, where he led the NCAA in scoring for two seasons (1996-97). He made six appearances for the Revolution this season, earning two starts – including one on May 8 in a 1-0 shootout win over the Fusion, where he scored a shootout goal. He played in five games last season for MLS Cup Champion Chicago Fire before being acquired off waivers by New England on April 5, 1999. He is expected to join Miami next week. Only 22, Parra is already in his third season in Major League Soccer. He started in 16 games for the Fusion in 1998, and has played in nine of the Fusion’s 12 games in 1999, starting in seven. MLS originally assigned Parra to the MetroStars in 1997. Parra was the first player in MLS to sign as a Project 40 player. He appeared in four games in 1997 with the Metros. In June of 1998, the Fusion acquired Parra from the MetroStars in exchange for Ramiro Corrales. “Carlos is a talented young player with potential,” said Revolution Player/Coach Walter Zenga said. “He is a capable two-way player who can give us fresh legs in the midfield. He played well against us in both our games with the Fusion this season.” Parra is expected to join the Revolution this weekend and could be available for New England’s June 5 match against Chicago at Foxboro Stadium.
