U.S. keeper Brad Friedel's UEFA Cup run has come to end following Blackburn's 2-0 loss yesterday to Glasgow Celtic in Blackburn. Celtic prevailed, 3-0, on aggregate. Friedel was rarely tested in the game and had little chance on the goals by Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton.
John O'Brien remains the only American whose team remains alive in European club play. His Ajax Amsterdam qualified for the second group phase of the Champions League despite losing 2-1 to Inter Milan Tuesday. O'Brien remained sidelined with an injury. Ajax finished second to Inter in Group D.
In the second group phase, Ajax has been drawn into Group B with Roma, Arsenal and Juventus.
